The Revenge, a play that is not about a border wall. It is a tale of power, love, money and dreams, a classic 19th-century comedy, and a masterpiece of Polish literature in a contemporary stage version by Michał Zadara. Not only is it a story replete with wit and elegance but also with violence as well.

There is a fight over a property between Cześnik and Rejent – a bitter conflict over property and influence. Both characters are merciless and hope that power will cure them of their monstrous loneliness. The Revenge is a play about rich people’s spiritual problems and their insatiability. In the world of revenge, the potential for violence is always high. And sometimes violence erupts for no good reason, and consecutive generations are then involved
in old disputes.

The Revenge, has been staged at the Comedy Theatre in the glitter of bright city lights but, on the other hand, it is also The Revenge without cutting
corners, played in verse according to the script – not ‘rewritten’ – just the way the playwright envisioned it: with serious, complex and vibrant characters whose ridiculousness is time and again magnified by tragic conflict.
