It is night, two people meet in the street under rather strange circumstances. One is a ‘trader’, the other a ‘buyer’. The trader is trying to sell the buyer something that the buyer would like to purchase. However, the buyer refuses to call it by its name and refuses any transaction. “Our play is about sexual perversion, about a hidden desire which is punishable, considered a crime by any society, although legal now,” says the director. Although there are two actors on stage – Ingeborga Dapkunaite and John Malkovich – there are no two characters in the show, which is a projection of the unconscious mind of one man who is endlessly struggling with himself, a nightmare in which he is constantly trying to come to terms with himself. That is why he invents these two selves, the seller and the buyer. The actors swap roles during the performance. The inner monologue breaks down into a dialogue, the last dialogue before the tragedy…
