Caligula is a lonely egocentric man who survives the loss of his sinful love for his sister. To free himself from his past, he uses the absolute power of the emperor. He tries to escape from madness and the painful feeling of emptiness and prove to everyone his strength and steadfastness in the face of fate. He tries to regain happiness and his lost trust that his life has meaning. Therefore, he begins to act. His actions however bring only chaos and death. To what depths can a man descend while in fear for his life? What or whom can he abandon while enduring humiliation and torture? What is true freedom about? What turns a man into a slave, into a being who loses his dignity and honour? What is a man with unlimited power capable of? Is it him, or is it fear and tacit consent that control the situation, give birth to tyranny, and bring death and destruction not only to humanity, but to civilisation as such…
