Although considered unattractive, the eponymous Yvonne becomes the fiancée of Prince Philipp, who proposes to her, defying all others. However, something that was supposed to be the prince’s tomfoolery leads to grave repercussions. Yvonne begins to focus the attention of the entire court and brings confusion into his life. Eventually, she becomes a threat to him and no one doubts what should be done with her.

In Adam Orzechowski’s variation of the play, Yvonne comes to the theatre, just like the audience do. The patriarchal and violent world of the court does not receive her with love; on the contrary, it wants to get rid of her but in a sophisticated way.

The courtly reality is created between spectators and actors, and our presence there allows us to ask ourselves important questions. To what extent do we take responsibility for what happens around us? What happens within a person who is perceived by someone in a certain way? Finally, can we all, given specific circumstances, commit a crime, and do we, by any chance, commit one every day, although not necessarily in a bloody and spectacular way? Are we part of the court, an Yvonne, or perhaps both?
